Finchingfield and Wethersfield Neighbourhood plan

What is the Joint Finchingfield and Wethersfield Neighbourhood plan?

Braintree District Council (BDC) has recently given the go ahead for Finchingfield and Wethersfield to develop a joint Neighbourhood Plan (NP).

Several other Braintree parishes have completed their own plans (including Coggeshall and the Salings) and those of Great Bardfield and Toppesfield are well under way.

A NP is a legal document that records residents’ aspirations for their community over the next 10-15 years. Once approved by a Government Inspector and a residents’ referendum, a NP becomes an integral part of the BDC’s Local Development Plan and has the same weight as district planning policies. This makes it less likely (but not 100% certain) that developments can be imposed upon a community.

Our NP will cover 2,700 residents in 1,140 households across both parishes, including large parts of the airbase and all smaller villages and hamlets. By combining resources, we can preserve the distinct and separate identities of each parish whilst addressing our common aspirations and concerns.
